What's new in PDF Colophon
Colophon is on the App Store. This page tracks what changes from version to version. Here's what the first release brings — and below it, what's new in 1.3.
Version 1.3: read comfortably
This release is about the reading floor: themes — System, Day, Night, and Sepia — plus single-page, continuous, and fit-to-width display modes, all in one shared control in the Read inspector and the compact More menu. On iPhone, a new reflow lens reflows the current page into plain wrapped text for small screens, falling back to on-device text recognition where the page has no text layer.
Bookmarks arrive too: add, rename, and delete rows in the Read inspector, with a confirmation that states how many subsections a delete takes with it. And the annotate tools gain links — drag a region, point it at another page or a web address, and find it listed with its target under Share. Under the hood, redaction keeps its promise the strict way: where anything it can't provably remove survives, it refuses and reverts instead of reporting success.
Version 1.0: the first release
The first release brings the full document studio together on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, entirely on-device: in-place text and image editing with object copy and paste, true redaction, and page organization — reorder, rotate, crop, combine documents, Bates-number them, and resize pages to a standard paper size.
Marking up runs deep: highlight, underline, and strikeout that snap to the text; rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows, comments, text boxes, and callouts; and pressure-sensitive freehand ink. You can find and replace text on the page, print, fill and flatten forms and export their data as XFDF, and pull every annotation into a Markdown summary.
Security covers drawn and cryptographic signatures with trusted RFC 3161 timestamping, signature verification, password protection, and removing a password again. Scanning captures paper straight to searchable PDF with automatic OCR. On-device Apple Intelligence chats over your documents and library with page-cited answers, full-content search reaches every document, and Colophon plugs into the system through Spotlight, Shortcuts, and Siri. On the Mac it's a real Mac app, with a native menu bar and the full keyboard-shortcut set.
