Redact a document

Marking regions

Switch to Redact mode and drag over anything that needs to disappear: a paragraph, a photo, a signature block. Marking a region doesn't change the page yet; it just queues that area for removal.

Applying redaction

Applying permanently removes the underlying content: any text in a marked region is deleted from the page, any vector graphics inside it go with it, and any image pixels inside the region are burned opaque rather than merely covered. A verification pass then confirms nothing extractable is left before Colophon reports the redaction as applied.

When Colophon can't redact

If that verification pass finds anything it can't prove is gone, such as an embedded object it can't reach, Colophon refuses to apply the redaction and reverts the document rather than hand you something that looks redacted but isn't. A black box drawn over text that's still selectable underneath isn't redaction; it just looks like it.
