Edit text and images in place

Editing text

Select a passage of text in Edit mode and choose Edit selection to open the underlying text objects it covers, each in its own tab with one Save and one Close for the whole group. Because the change applies to the page's actual content stream rather than an overlay sitting on top of it, the result stays just as searchable afterward as it was before you touched it.

Apple's Writing Tools are available inside that editor too, so you can rewrite or proofread a passage without leaving the tab.

Editing images

Switch to Add text and image mode to work with pictures: tap the page to add a new image or drag out a box to size it, then choose whether it should cover its box or fit inside it. Tap an existing image to select it, and its handles let you replace, move, resize, or delete it.

Copying and pasting objects

Select a text object or an image and copy it with ⌘C, then paste a duplicate with ⌘V, nudged slightly off the original so it's easy to grab. Copied text is rebuilt from its own characters, font, and position, and copied images travel as their own pixels, so a paste is a real second object on the page — not a flattened picture of one.

When a font can't be embedded

Most fonts embed cleanly into the edit, but for the small number that can't, Colophon substitutes a bundled font automatically rather than failing the edit outright, and tells you it made the swap.
